High speed camera

06/27/2007 4:09 PM

We are looking for a high speed camera for a manufacturing enviroment so we can see defects as they occur. We run approx. 1300 cycles per minute and it is difficult to see with the naked eye. Can you suggest a high speed camera we can use on the shop floor and playback at slower speeds to determine where our problems are originating

At one time Kodak made high speed cameras, up to 10,000 frames per second.

1300 revolutions per inute really isn't that fast, about 21 frames per second, so a regular camcorder is 30 frames per second, just use Microsoft Movie Maker or a Pinnacle software to look at each frame on a computer, some camcorders also have still shot save cards as you are stepping thru the frames.

If you have budget constraints, go to eBay and search. You might try in "lab lasers and photonics," but I wouldn't limit myself to just that search. I know I've seen high speed camera systems there.

If no budget constraint Machine Vision cameras are best suited for your requirement.....Where in images of each devise can be captured and stored when it is positioned in front of Camera..

High speed digital cameras are very expensive. I have just started using one at work. A Phantom V7.2 linked th TEMA motion Analysis software. Speeds upto 99,000 frames per second are possible with the correct amount of light. I am typically using 2000fps at the moment!

There are companies that contract this capability and will, for a fee, assist in the filming and analysis of you problem.

Search the net for high speed cameras and image analysis.

If you search for "machine vision" in Google you will find hundreds of companies that offer the sort of camera you are looking for. You will have to give careful consideration to the type of lenses & lighting to use & it might be better to get a couple of potential suppliers to come in to look at your problem rather than trying to buy something 'off the shelf'. 1300 frames/min (22 f/s) is not demanding so there should be plenty of firms to help you. (The fastest camera we've made ran at 500 million frames/second but you can't afford it).

I think you should contact "MYTHBUSTERS". They are constantly using High Speed Cameras.

Hello,

it is not always necessary to buy a camera. You can also rent a high-speed camera for your application. You will find more information under www.weinbergervision.com. When you are in the US or Canada go to www.weinbergerusa.com to create a free online quote.
