There are alternatives to UL for a Listed Panel shop. UL has a reputation for adding lots of extra hourly fees and additional visits that are not needed. One alternative Is Certifygroup, www.certifygroup.com, though there are others.

Usually, there will be a one-time charge for a Seminar, that will include training for all your personnel involved in the panel shop program, then a minimum of 2 unannounced visits per year to check on panels that have been shipped out, looking at any panels in progress, and paperwork / schematics / parts lists.

If you are making control panels and selling them to other builders, this is a great program. If you are building machinery (That the control panel is part of), you should get the whole machine certified.
