Neutral Grounding Resistance

06/27/2014 1:50 AM

We have a bank of 11KV 2000KVA DG sets operating in parallel with the grid. The DG set neutrals are grounded through resistance to limit ground fault current to the full load current of the generators, Only one neutral is connected to ground when sets are operating in parallel. The complication comes when the sets are paralleled with grid. The supply company wants their transformer neutrals to be solidly grounded. If we remove the DG neutral from grounding when the DG sets are grid paralleled then we are subjecting the DG alternators to heavy ground fault current in the event of a ground fault. If we remove the transformer neutrals from ground and keep the DG resistance grounding in circuit then it is unacceptable to supply company. Could some one with similar experience illuminate how this situation can be handled?

Please provide an annotated sketch of your setup and identify exactly where the ambiguity or contrary/conflicting standard interpretation is.

Too many words to digest Learner!!! A lot of us here are old and what time we have left we like to use efficiently....get to the point young dude.

Yes, Apparently there is an issue.

It is true that only one grounding system should be functioning to cater tio entire system but the same is not capable in this case. By grounding differently neutral voltages differences shall lead to circulating currents and heating. there needs to be some investment of some mind-game into it. Could you provide sketch - block dia atleast with parameters. Let us think on it.

Use the Gennies as separately derived sources

...or...

Change the neutral bonding method on the gennies
