Boiler Tube Tests

07/24/2014 4:02 AM

Hi Guys

I have come accross a phrase called "tube solo test" that is done on boiler tubes. Can someone tell me what this means. I have been working with piping for a long time and have never heard of it. Maybe its used to substitute some test that I already know like UT, replication, RT, MPI, Die Pen, eddy current etc.

Can you specify the source?

1. it could be a bad translation

2. it could be a test that refers to testing the tubes in a bundle seperatly to find the leaking one.

3. I think its 1.

4. I think it could be 2.

5. A quick researc has drawn a blank until I looked up "Solo test"

But thats nothing to do with what you need to know . . .

Thanks so much. From the context of the report I think its 2. Because the report is recommending the test for a boiler superheater bank.

Sure it isn't "tuba solo test" (music exam)?

Sounds like something simple such as isolating and testing one tube at a time, rather than a bank of tubes simultaneously. Could it be that a tube/ tubes have been replaced fairly recently an don't require testing ? or perhaps a previous repair needs to be re-tested ? or something similar (too lazy to type more options now).

I have worked with a series of heaters, when isolated heater has a tube leak that has been repaired we refer to the test on the repair as "a solo tube" when there is only one repaired and tested.
