Running Cables in Trefoil

07/25/2014 5:54 PM

Hi guys, I am about to do a job where I have to run 12 x 240mm single core cables to supply 4 motors. Will the trefoil stacking of ; RWB RWB RWB RWB ..... W being on top. be ok? Or do I have to have a different configuration? Any advice appreciated!

Does it really matter? See above.

Will the motors rotate in the desired direction?

Over long runs you're supposed to alternate the order. Over the years I've used straight and interleaved methods, I can't say I've ever noticed any difference in temperature. It makes the install difficult and looks a mess.
For long runs in trenches I've run singles in hardwood cleats giving equal spacing. It made installation easy and gave good ventilation.

Please don't tell me you're going to use nylon lock straps to secure them.

I will say I've never run singles to a motors only for transformers

Since you have 12 single-core cables for 4 motors then you have-for each motor-only one conductor per phase. In this case- actually- it is not important the cable sequence in a bunch of three. The unbalance could occur only between more parallel cables -per phase.
