Urgent; Help Needed! My Touch Pad Keeps Jumping/Skipping

07/28/2014 7:06 PM

Ok, This isn't urgent just a royal pain.

My Gateway MT6707 mouse/touch pad has an aggravating habit of of jumping/skipping when I'm typing because if I touch the touch pad, it rearranges my text. I'm typing bece touch pad, it rearraause if I touch the touch pad, it rearranges my text. (Like that)

I've loaded, and reloaded TouchPad Blocker and it is turned on now.

I've followed the user manual instructions, Control Panel: Hardware and Sound: Device Settings: Mouse: Enable/Disable, and a couple of Google suggestions to no avail.

I'm considering using a prophylactic film.

The other problem is that I sometimes use the touch pad so I'm not wanting to totally disable it.

It's getting a little old and having some issues.

Ok, let the flames fly.

Thanks.

Mine has a little button just at the top that shuts it off....or you could try a higher chair or lower desk....

Mine has a button at the top that wishes it could. All it really does is turn an LED above the touchpad on or off. Whatever it takes to pass final QC. (sigh)

I agree, those pads are mainly a nuisance. On my HP, I can tap on a detent on it to disable it I much prefer using a wireless mouse on the arm of the chair.

While we're talking about peeves, I would also like to permanently disable the CAPS LOCK key, which I sometimes hit instead of the SHIFT.

Me too.

I pried the CAPS LOCK key off my work keyboard because I kept hitting it when I was typing. Don't know why I do.

I can't find any way to turn it off. Someone said Fn 9 turned it off. Nope.

I'm considering cutting a business business card to fit the recess.

Try setting the "click" speed to a slower setting...sometimes you accidentally hit the pad and it interprets it as a click...I keep mine set at almost the slowest click setting.

I'll play with that. I do like to hit it to click when I'm not using the wireless mouse.

Thanks.

Is a new driver available somewhere for your touchpad? Inspired by your post, I checked for yours and mine both. Not much available for yours it seems, but for my Dell there was a new touchpad driver available and now Fn + F3 works to enable/disable it, thank goodness. I cannot stand touchpads. Seems Dell started shipping the model before everything worked.

Fn+F3 puts mine to sleep, instantly.

GA. I have had a number of laptops using Synaptics driver. Update the driver, and the icon in the right hand side of the task bar can be right clicked, then left click "Tap To Click" on/off.

My Compac laptop doesn't have Synoptics pad...program works but cannot be set to 'disable pad', but all the other functions work...there is a small button on the pad bezel that completely disables the pad. Cursor keys work in cr4 editor with pad off, but then you cannot get to 'preview comment' What happened to WordStar and all the keyboard function and cursor controls? They seem to have died with the birth of GUI and mice...we need a better 'mousetrap'!!!

In the control panel if you are disabling the mouse you are disabling the wrong device.

Should be settings for the touch pad. Look for the setting for making a touch of the pad as a button click and disable that.

"Should be".

I find no settings nor reference to touch pad/mouse pad, etc.

Did you replace the power supply? My son recently replaced his smart-phone mains power unit with a cheapo unit and it suffered similar symptoms. Perhaps a noisy or leaky PSU with spikes? A good, branded one cured the problem.

No. Haven't replaced anything. I'll buy a new one before I replace anything.

Put a bandaid on the digit that touches the pad.

If you hit it with a hammer, there will be a nonresponsive black hole in the middle, with lots of weird jumping when crossing from side to side.

there is an internet download 'touchpad blocker' that works well for disabling the accidental bumps while typing... I am still trying to find a way to disable the way the touchpad accepts a 'tap' on the pad is accepted as a press of the lower left 'key' of the pad and the way the 'page scroll, buttons disappear when you place the cursor on the lower right corner of the screen and you must 'wiggle' it to bring back the cursor function or after you delay while scrolling a click or tap takes you to some *%$ ad that is on the edge... if you touch the pad to wiggle it accepts the touch(tap) as a jump to add. "MICROSOFT BULLCR4P!"

I'm with you, but, that's a MUCH larger issue than the small, irritating issue that Lyn is facing.

After all, Microsoft isn't merely a SMALL, irritating issue!

(C'mon, Lyn. Help me here. The touchpad IS small, right? OK, OK, so it isn't a laughing matter. I'm just trying to lighten the mood, here.)

I have trimmed a business card to fit into the touchpad recess. It works.

I have Touchpad Blocker loaded and "on".

While it worked at one time, it no longer does.

I get the same thing all the time on my HP DV7 Laptop and I don't even have to touch the touch pad. I use a wireless mouse all the time. Disabling the touch pad does not solve the problem. However maybe for you, you should disable your touch pad, you can go in and do in your settings but I think it turns back on each time you turn off and on your computer.

Cut a piece of cardboard to cover it, tape it down and problem gone. This isn't a complicated solution, just practical.

You must have missed the original post where I said, "The other problem is that I sometimes use the touch pad so I'm not wanting to totally disable it."

And #20, where I said, "I have trimmed a business card to fit into the touchpad recess. It works."

Since there is a recess, no tape required.

My issue is that Touchpad Blocker worked well for two years.

Thanks.

I had the same problem.

You should be able to disable the touch-pad in the cmos settings and use a small USB mouse instead.
