Improved Velcro

08/12/2014 10:34 AM

I always considered Velcro was one of the best inventions ever made.... but take a look look on what German engineers did: http://www.metaklett.de/technologie.html

I doubt this will be a replacement for the cloth hook-and-loop universal size baseball cap adjustment strap that is common today.

Velcro is, of course, a registered trademark of Velcro Industries.

Hook and loop fasteners are great, mostly.

I hate it when I buy a pair of shorts and the back pockets have that junk on them.

I immediately cut it off so that I can get into my back pocket without having to give myself a wedgie to get the flap open.

It looks like this has to be perfectly aligned for it to work, whereas Velcro hooks and loops are both flexible and randomly located and therefore do not need any particular alignment.

Ain't that the truth! I spent over an hour one time pulling those burrs off my socks with a pair of pliers.

I don't get it.

Where is this product intended to be used and what is its advantage over existing products?

It is intended to be used to grate cheese.

It makes bigger chunks of cheese. (Insert smiley face here, as mine are inoperable at this time)

Borrowed from Doorman.

Looks like it would be a knuckle grater as well.

I don't know the intended application but the temperature range, 200°C for most versions & 800°C for one, is way above any hook and loop.

Hi, according to what I read it has bee designed for those applications (mainly involving heat) in which Velcro fails, like exhaust manifolds, etc. This is supposed to resist up to 800º C

Well a Bablefish translation of part of the website yeiled this.....

In terms of cutting packaging, Hall has developed an innovative solution that increases productivity of compared to conventional Stanzpaketierwerkzeugen to 100%

Also, the company is involved in the field of high-performance cutting tools and the stamping part production, with this having the advantage over riveting and welding so there is that.

I used to complain about the cheap packaging, but I wish it was back.

My wife bought a power supply for something and I literally was afraid I would injure myself getting it out of the armored packaging.

42a Materials is an engineered surface treatment technology that connects AND seals based on auxetic 3D /4D fabric layer treatments that are overlaid. Better than Velcro and Metaklett ... but that's only my personal opinion!
