Open this: wire / Tube 2014 - Armouring Steel Tape - Galvanized Wire ..., then read it.

It gives the uses.

Frankly, I am at a loss as to what you really want.

Is this just idle curiosity or are you taking a test?

You can hire a tutor if you want someone to teach you the fundamentals of wiring.

Depends on what the tape is. There's several types and materials used, each has a separate purpose.

Look on a manufacturers site.

Choose one for the type of interference you would prefer to prevent, in addition to strength characteristics...it's a trade-off or can be complementary.

Armoring and shielding are not the same thing.

Agreed...

...but, shielding is a side benefit to a good armor.

From your link: Armouring steel wire is made of galvanized steel wires in round and formed sections. These wires are commonly used for the protection (prevention of accidental damage), the provision of additional strength, and for earthing of all grades of electric cables.

I have been doing some testing lately with the steel armor wires on some of our longer cables where they terminate in the lightning protection cabinet. I have found that the armor performs quite well as a shield.

You are right, though, in that the OP specified armoring.

Both are the same for shielding the leakage current and for earthing purpose. It depend on what type of cables you are using and what type of shielding you require and how you lay your cables at what type of environment and location and area.

Simon Wan,

Please refrain from sending any more threads. You are dispensing useless, dangerous misinformation.

I think the flatten wire is thinner [only 0.8 mm according to IEC 60502] but round wire could be 4 mm diameter. That means the round wire armored cable is stronger and could be pulled at longer distance.

However the overall diameter is increased and the losses are more elevated.

That poses the problem of passing through conduit and the derated ampacity.
