Wiring Diagram for Ajax Model KXD145TBFR7029AB W

09/04/2014 6:09 PM

Would anyone know where to go for a wiring diagram for this motor?

frame 146T

type BFR

des L

codeK

ph 1

cycles 60

volts 115/ 230

hp 2

No wiring diagram on motor. I believe it came off of a high pressure pump in a car wash and is an oem motor. Sometimes the motor will start and sometimes it will trip the breaker before coming up to speed. When it fails to start there is a "growling" sounds like iron vibrating in the core. Runs good when it starts - no issues. I havent torn it down yet, but am presuming that there is a centrifical starting switch. Anyone know anything about these motors? Thanks sk54

Yes. Your favourite search engine will yield loads of phone numbers. The telephone is a wonderful thing.

Tried that route first- apparently they are out of business. As it is a dual voltage motor, with 3 caps there are some different wiring scenarios that might apply..... The motor appears to have been altered somewhat. Hoping someone with knowledge of Ajax might see this post, and have an idea where to source their diagrams, as this isnt your typical single phase motor. When it slows after running it would make you think there is regenerative braking taking place. Doing this as a freebie-so I want to be prepared as much as possible before taking it apart. Thanks for the help.

3 caps is highly unusual, but off the top of my head, I'd say Cap-Start / Cap-Run with a "hard start" cap added for some reason (extra starting cap). I can't see the need for braking on a pump. Usually the hard start is for A/C or refrigeration compressors because they have to start loaded even if there are significant voltage drops that take place, as in residential areas where it cant be avoided. But those are not really intended to be used on CS/CR motors, nor on centrifugal pumps. So its likely that someone had a problem, knew of hard start kits from the HVAC world and rather than solve the real problem, they buy the hard start kit and kluged it into the CS/CR motor. The problem is, those kits are for use on hermatically sealed CS refrigeration motors where the caps are external and switched out by an external potential relay, not a centrifugal switch. The centrifugal switch in this motor would NOT be designed to open that extra capacitance and is frying. The symptoms you describe are those of a failing centrifugal switch.

FWIW there was a company called Ajax in New York for a long time, who had an exclusive import rights contract with Weg back when nobody knew who Weg was in this country. Once Weg got known, they dumped Ajax and they folded. The point is, check that part number on the Weg website, it might come up. As i recall, Ajax put their name on them but used the Weg part numbers for UL listing reasons.

Thanks, I know the cs is the player in the affair....when it fails to start is about when you would expect it to cut out the start winding..... Hadnt considered the scenario you describe, but it makes sense. I have been holding off tearing it down, because I keep thinking there is something obvious I am missing. Hadnt put a megger on it, but had checked it with an ohm meter, and didnt see anything alarming. Being suspicous of the starting cap(s) setup, knew I at least needed more info on the motor. It isnt being used in a hard start application, nor frequently. Easy enough to figure out if it will start with less cap. I appreciate your thoughts, sometimes it's hard to ask questions in a way that will elecit beneficial response.

conduct an insulation test. read winding resistance. if its approaching less than 0.5Mohms some coil burnt already.
