Chrome plated hardware for marine applications

07/03/2007 2:52 PM

Does anybody know how chrome plated doorknobs are affected by exposure to a marine environment? (i.e installed on yacht doors) Is there some type of coating that can be used to prevent or retard the finish from corroding? any ideas?

NO, best use stainless steel which can be highly polished, Chrome will always give you problems over time

copper or brass is even better, the chlorine in sea water tends to attack chromium
