New-Site Woes

09/24/2014 11:43 PM

This site is trashing my browser (Firefox) something fierce. I have to manually kill the process (and sometimes reboot the computer outright) in order to close the window. I don't what it is trying to do but, whatever it is, it's not working. On my Android phone the Home Page now merely hangs whilst loading.

This has not been a smooth transition by any measure. Give it a few days, maybe?

No problems with my Android and Chrome. I don't like Chrome.

I'm using Firefox v33.0, I'm not seeing any issues with display but slow rendering of the page.

I have noscript plug in, and did have to enable quantserve.com to see the new header of IHS Engineering 360.

I don't have any script or ad blocker but I can't see the header either (using chrome). I've also noticed that the 'login' that used to sit in the top RH corner has gone, where do I login to CR4 now?

Think they're working on it.

OK, F5 brings the header back & I have the login link.

Whatever else has gone wrong, I'm just over the moon that after about a year or so without, I'm now getting e-mail alerts for new posts & messages.

I'm not sure what's going on with Firefox and Chrome. I've put in a support ticket and am hoping the issue is fixed soon.

For the time being, everything seems to look okay in Internet Explorer.

Still no right click, copy/ paste function in FF. A link can be posted if manually typed out though.

#4 was a right-click paste job in Firefox .

Anybody else got great big tram-lines running down either side of the page ? Suppose I could get some felt-tip pens and use it for jotting notes on.

It's just that your browser is searching for nude photos in your PC to... cloud them. S.M.

What the HELL is this site doing to my computer??? Just opening the Home Page locks up my browser. I can't even close its window. Any tabs already open die. Everything dies. I have to kill the process.

What the hell are you putting on my machine that would screw up the browser so badly that the process itself locks up?????

I'm posting this from my phone. Posting anything from my computer's browser is now impossible, not when I can't get past the Home Page. Oh, but no worries.

"The site will just look different but it will work the same."

You mean, after a complete rewrite and much added complexity - not to mention farming it out to a third party - do you really think so? That it would be that simple? It would "look different" and that's all? Just like that? What about the parts you *can't* see?

I'm about one micron short of blacklisting this site. Your site starts screwing with my computer and that's it. Whatever it is your site is putting on my machine, get it off and KEEP it off.

I'm not sure why you're experiencing this problem. It works fine for me both on my work and home computers, as well as my phone.

The only new additions to CR4 that I'm aware of are the changed masthead that's across all Engineering360 pages, 2 additional banner ads on some pages, and the pop-up ad that you shouldn't see more than once per day (not sure about the rules on that).

CR4 has not been completely rewritten. There were some minor back-end changes made a month or so ago that resolved the posting problems that everyone had.

My computer disagrees that the changes are benign. It works on your hardware, yes, but that is not proof of anything. It does not work on mine. Every computer is different and I am sure that my computer is configured quite differently than yours. Our machines are different and so it is not a valid comparison.

The timing of these problems, moreover, coincides *exactly* with the release of this new site. My browser worked fine, the site changed, and now my browser does not work - but only when visiting *this site*. Guess who's the likely culprit?

I depend for my living on my computer, and this site is putting that computer at risk. I'm sorry, but I'm blacklisting this site. It is simply not worth the risk to my machine.
