Google it. That always helps machinability.

Seriously, did you lose your reference book?

If you are applying for a job, or taking a test, why not post all of the questions at once and save time?

41Cr4 is an Alloy Steel with 0.41% C and 0.4% Cr. If this material is Quenched from a high temp. it will harden to a high BHN. By tempering the steel you are adjusting its hardness to a pre-determined value for use in a certain part. These processes must be carried out only after machining to the required shape & size of the part is completed from the raw material which is in annealed condition which means heat treated to a soft machinable condition.

If you now want to make it machineable again, you must carry out re-annealing. This requires controlled reheating of the part to a temp of approx. 700 deg.C @ 125C/hr from ambient temp. holding it at that temp for a time of 1hr/25mm thk. of the part and cooling it to a temp of about 300 deg.C @ 80C/hr and later air cooling to ambient. Check the BHN after the operation. It must be about 120 for machining.

Remember not to carry out repeated annealing as this will cause undue grain growth.
