Speed Governing for Cummins EFC Governor

10/29/2014 12:34 PM

hi

we have tried to synchronize a cummins generator with cummins efc speed governor (part number 49140900) to an old generator using datakom 707 automatic synchronizer (which have a governor out put 0f 0-10v internal impedance of 1000 ohm). we tried different voltage range ( maximum and minimum ) on the synchronizers according to the module manufacturers ,we are able to control the speed of the generator but with a small input voltage( 0.1v,) the frequency of the generator goes above 1hz . due to these when we want to synchronize the gen set the phase angle couldn't be matched .

it became unstable .the speed of the gen set also become unstable.

can this problem avoided by using a series resistor connected along the governor voltage positive out put terminal? .if not what can we do to solve this problem ?

i see a resistor connected to the positive governor terminal out put of most common load sharing and synchronizer module before it is connected to the governors . what is the use of this resistors ?

What are the complete specifications of the generators you are attempting to sync..?

the two generators are both 200kw and the old one is volvo (which we intend to use it as a master generator and we will not control the speed and voltage .it will close to the common bus-bar first ) and the other one is a cummins generator with the cummins efc 4914090. ( the cummins generator is supposed to be synchronized with the volvo generator and close its breaker).

we set the governor voltage out put range of the synchronizer between 7.2 and 3.6 and the center voltage 5.4 v . we connect the + gov output and the gov reference of the synchronizer to terminal 8 (wiper ) and terminal 11 (common )of the cummins efc governor respectively .

when we try it to synchronize it the voltage matches but the frequency and the phase angle difference fluctuate. the synchronizer tries to adjust the speed but the speeds become unstable . when we observe it closely it seems like a small increase in the voltage output (+.1)from the synchronizer increase the frequency more than 1 hz and then it tries to lower it but the speeds goes down again . and it continues like this.

can this be solved by adding a series resistor across the governor output line . if not is there any kind of interfacing module we can add between the governor and the synchronizer so that it will work without changing the synchronizer module.

What is the fuel type? What are the load characteristics?
