Some videos have a tendency to be jerky, if edited.

Maybe you need a:

Free MKV Player - CNET Download.com

'jerky if edited' - LOL !

I'd be wary of CNET. It used to be fairly good, but thesedays will stick you with a load of PUP's and toolbars unless careful. That said most download site I know have gone that way.

Dear OP : Once you have sorted this issue, is there any chance of some feedback about how you got on with the previous question ? With some judicious timing the goal may be possible with Windows built in software.

When you find the right software watch out for all the check boxes that might download unwanted clutter to your computer. Some of it can be a real pain to remove.

A common problem with jerky video playback in HD at full screen size is that the processor simply can not handle the data fast enough.

Both of my toughbooks do exactly what you are describing and it simply because they can not process all the info for a full screen.

Now if I cut the HD stuff down in size or run it through my All Video Converter program and reduce the resolution there is no problem.

Unfortunately now a days 2 gig of RAM and 2.1 GHz of dual core processor is not enough to handle high action HD work.

The only easy fix is a to run a dedicated video card (if possible) that does all the HD video work freeing up your main processor.

But it tries to, and heats up... a lot.

I had a similar issue. When the video image started jerking I checked the processor temp and it was WAY high. Improved cooling for the processor and that fixed my particular issue.

Doorman just gave you one! Put a fan (or a bigger one) on your microprocessor.

tcmtech also provided a couple. Re-read his post!

You can get a faster laptop for about $300 at BestBuy. They get rid of the older systems to make way for the newer systems and slash the prices quite a bit. You might also be able to get a refurbished system from UBID cheap, just watch what you want to spend and subtract the shipping costs from that. I've purchased 3 different computers through UBID and all of them worked fine. One I had to assemble myself but all the parts were there.

I recommend you buy a more up to date computer for viewing HD movies.

That old OptiPlex is mostly good as a boat anchor.

If these are online check to see if tabs are opening up to ad sites (close tabs) - happens first few minutes of shows on "coke & popcorn" for example. These are usually adobe flash. Close all unnecessary services - download "what's running". Be sure your VLC is latest version. Make sure to install latest drivers for display card. As mentioned cooling and better card will do it.
