Outrageous! This fellow may be smart but has he thought this thing through? Just the thing for criminals. Imagine school kids having one - hate to think of the possibilities.

Where I come from it was and is still pretty common for a kid age 10 - 14 to get a 22 rifle for christmas.

Point is if properly taught responsibility with dangerous things ...... well they are not so dangerous when placed in capable hands.

I grew up that way too, but that doesn't make me any complacent about this kind of thing.

Everybody knows what a rifle is, and that it is dangerous. This thing looks more like a mobile camera than a weapon. Suppose someone finds it and decides to take a picture of someone, or a selfie, as a practical joke on the owner.

It takes some force to pull the trigger on a gun (unless you have one of those brand new new defective ones that can go off by shaking it) but this has a tiny little button that isn't even protected from a shirt sleeve.

A rifle has a safety switch. This has none.

A toddler could find this and play with the buttons, just like daddy's or mommy's cell phone.

A cat could grab this from a shelf and play with it.

A defective button could randomly or continuously send out a beam that could blind people at long range, without anyone knowing how it happened, including the owner. In fact the owner may not even know it happened and just wonder how the battery got so low.

This is all a little different from a 22 in capable hands.

"You'll put your eye out with that thing!" - Just about every adult talking to that kid from A Christmas Story.

Sorry, it's a reflex.

They're small, take two.... great winter attire; frozen keyholes no worries. Survivalists will swoon for this emergency firestarter an extra battery recommended. Cool tool!

"......this is a WEAPON!"

So are two sticks, a big rubber band and a marble.

It's all in how you use something that defines whether or not its a weapon or something else.

Personally what I see there is a precision fly blaster!

So do you want me to try chase it off with the 'dangerous laser weapon' or my 'harmless slingshot' and 3/4" marble?

Would you care if Fredski makes the call?

"Junior, be careful with your slingshot when you are playing the the back yard. You might accidentally blind the pilots of those airliners 35,000 feet up."

Re: Every Kid Needs One

Does anyone know how much laser power is required to kill a mosquito in flight?

I remember seeing somewhere that one of bill Gate's associates could make a laser

mosquito zapper to blast them out of the air, guided by radar or sonar.

I live near a large swamp, and we used to have wild turkeys, but the mosquitoes ate

them all,so now people are their prime target.

Anyone have suggestions?

You have to eliminate the source....

" Even better than this device is the genetically engineered male mosquito. The GE male mosquito reproduces with females and the offspring are 98% male. Not only that, each new male carries the modified gene that when they mate with other females, they produce even more GE males. After just a few generations, an entire mosquito population is wiped out due to lack of females to produce more eggs. "

I see blind people in that laser's future. Kids, mostly.

Guns, slingshots, etc. are one thing, but laser is light and so reflects off things and at great distances whilst still retaining much of its original power. It's a LASER. What are lasers known for? Tight beams that stay tight over long distances.

Even if someone wasn't aiming at somebody, they can still blind others and themselves inadvertantly and a lot more easily than by accidentally shooting someone with a gun.

Try shooting somebody with a gun by aiming at their reflection in a window. With a laser you can.

WOW! Kids! Just think of the fun (damage) you can have if you splice a 18650 L-Ion battery in the circuit instead of the watch battery!
