12/10/2014 4:49 AM

Are there any rules/CEIG guidline for use of aluminum windings in transformers like the maximum rating/voltage class upto which we can use aluminum in India.

Thanks in advance

Never heard. Aluminum has a low melting point compared to copper. Heat might be an issue to your coils.

But, who knows any expert around here may knew some kind of stuff working.

Aluminum wires are widely used for making of transformers.and you can also use it so long-

It is insulated with desired class of enamel.

Diameter is selected keeping resistivity, temp coefficient, and current in mind.

Magnetic core selected accordingly.(in case of aluminum winding total volume of winding will be more than of copper winding)

And So On---

thanks for reply my concern is about any IE / CIEG / CEA guideline in India which limits the use of aluminum windings in medium power transformer. i.e maximum kVA rating upto which use of aluminum is allowed or any approvals from the Electricity boards

Did you try copper-aluminium alloy?.
