I was a devote of Quicken in it's early days and even stayed a while once Intuit took over. I left when it was relying more on transfers and bells and whisles than on what it was supposed to do, that and I caught a lot of math errors in the handling of investments and mortages. I have not found anything to replace it, however. I have existed on the old pencil and paper routine of dinasaur ages and some work with spread sheets and other methods (like just forgetting about it.) We are comfortable in our finance and I can keep many approximate values in my head, but my wife want to see it in black and white. I started to look for software and don't mind paying reasonable amounts for it but cannot find what I want.
What I want is something that can run on Apple (wife) and PC (myself) and also have input capability from a smart phone while traveling. I would prefer not having the software move data through the internet but if it would work without that I have no problem if it has that capability. I could probably write a database application that would do what I want, simply keep track of account and how money is spent and on what, but I would prefer to download or purchase someone elses' work. What I really want is one of the old quicken programs but they won't run on the new operating systems. I particulaly want to avoid the internet involvement in my monetary transactions. And yes, I do purchase items on the internet but am careful about who I deal with and look for some other protection like from credit cards that have a better reputation for watching for problems.
I realize that this is pretty much a rant and may not have a solution, but I thought if anyone out there knows of something that is available, it would be great.
