US Forecasters Expecting Warm Winter this Year

10/13/2005 9:21 AM

Good news for families already beleaguered by rising fuel prices. Longer range weather forecasts prepared by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) suggests that average temperatures in the US should be higher this Winter than the averages in previous years. The average precipitation outlook is also less extreme than previous averages, although the Midwest looks to be wetter than normal.

Does anyone know how NOAA stacks up against the Farmers Almanac?

Hi Chris , a few years ago the English weather presenter Michael Fish made an infamous blunder on UK television. They had a call from a 'little old lady' type who had heard a storm was on the way. He assured the nation (in a slightly patronising way) that there would be no hurricane. and conditions were calm. Next Day ; worst storm in living memory .Whoops !

It would be hilariously funny except people lost there lives , and he has forever been on the bad end of jokes . Just goes to show , prediction is a dodgy business . (whilst checking info for a question , I heard NASA predicted in 1970 that we would be on Mars by 1985 ...).
