If one examines the changes in lifestyle over the last few generations, it becomes obvious that many of "the old ways" have been rejected in the interest of independence. And while that has some advantages, it also has several disadvantages including overpopulation and general loss of wisdom as families separate much sooner than in centuries past.
While nothing can really replace one on one interaction, in person, I am begining to see some benefits of being more connected via all of this technology. The unfortunate part of that comes from the "blind" leading the "blind" by texting friends rather than consulting with more experienced parents or grandparents. It makes me think we are approaching a "hive mentality" which is still very much in its infancy.
I suppose it will be obvious soon enough, but I see a lot of repeated mistakes that simply weren't made in centuries past. Collectively, we seem to be at a loss for benefiting from other peoples mistakes such as living beyond our means. This simply was not done in the past without severe self inflicted consequences. Is there a chance that applications like social networks will evolve enough to be educational?
