Boron Steel Grades for Case Hardening

01/01/2015 10:39 PM

Hi gentlemen

I found some of the Boron steels like SAE15B25 micro and hardness found variation in Case areas compare to other steels after carbo nitirding process.Other type steels did not have the issues so far. Can you tell me any insitance happen in anyone's experience.

I dabble in material science and feel compelled to inform you that some metals that have been optimized for specific mechanical properties such as cold heading, can suffer dramatic failures in other properties, such as corrosion resistance. Be certain of all your alloy's material properties prior to selection.

HOT ROLLED HARDENABLE BORON STEELS Hardenable boron steel Hot rolled boron steels have been developed to be hardened, either by heat treatment after workshop processing, or by a direct hot forming & quenching process to get their final properties. Boron steel is a perfect base material for a great variety of products, parts and components, that need extreme hardness, wear resistance, high strength, toughness and resistance to mechanical load. These boron steel properties after heat treatment ensure longer lifetime and considerable weight reduction. Good forming- bending- welding- and cutting properties enable the manufacturing of complicated structures, components and parts. Hot rolled boron steels are delivered in hot rolled (as-rolled) condition as coil, slit coil, cut to length sheet, wide flats, heavy plate and parts. Boron steels are also available in the form of cold rolled coil, slit coil, cut to length sheet, structural hollow sections, precision tubes and roll-formed profiles. Applications Wear plates Grader blades Track shoes Liner plates Screen plates Crushers Knives Saw blades Spades Hand tools Ploughs Discs for harrows Washers Safety parts and components
