01/07/2015 10:42 AM

What are the most critical test parameters in testing the operational integrity of a permanent magnet electrical motor?

Depends on size of motor and application.
If it's a 5v motor in a kids toy, then a simple does it spin when you stick a PP3 battery on it is probably good enough.

In the US, we don't have any "PP3" marked batteries. "AA" and "AAA" are most common markings of small batteries in the US. Does England have many motor manufacturing plants?

Don't be daft... you must recognise these.

Ok maybe these days the have some new fangled daft international code number... but Google certainly recognised PP3. It's not really that hard to use.

Don't tell me that you don't have these in the US!

A guy was once trying to describe on of these to me... he said.

"You know, one of those flat batteries" !

If you open up a PP3 you will see it has 6 little batteries that are similar to AAA ones wired in series.

Thanks for the "clear" reply. We just call these 9 volt batteries in the US

Read the nameplate, those are the parameters the factory tested.-- Does it mean those are critical? It can't be.

Plug it in. Does the shaft go round and round?

Really, you need to do some reading of motor testing specifications, or ask a co-worker.

Or go to the reference library

Or contact NFPA/IEC/IEEE, etc.

Well if it's for international distribution you might need to look at CSA, UL, VDE, TUV, and IEC to name a few!

Good point. Just looking for US and Mexico motor manufacturing opportunities. The motor test system is the only part of the manufacturing process I am looking for.
