Yes, but he is going to do it in a Tesla just to show everyone there is no need for range anxiety anymore.

They are building a charging station our here in the desert so that you can feel safe driving out here. From the write-up I saw (http://www.ridgecrestca.com/article/20150110/News/150109778) you get to take a 30 minute break every 170 miles. Not setting a new land speed record, obviously.

I love hearing about people with vision for what "can be" and not just what "is" at the moment. Who knows whether Space X will succeed in that or not. He is putting his money at risk so more power too him. When great things are done there are always people who had been naysayers who will come back after the fact and say "I knew you could do it." It's too easy to let detractors influence our thinking and thereby keep us "bound in the logical" today.

Andy Stanley defines vision as "a mental picture of what could be, fueled by a conviction that it should be." It moves from being a good idea to something that has to happen. When that level of motivation changes, great things happen.
