Trim Balancing

01/09/2015 9:41 PM

When machine is running with high vibration due to rotor unbalance say for example, a pair of balancer is added at lower & upper side of rotor. My question here is how trim balancing is done.

Go down to your replacement automotive tyre workshop and watch them balancing wheels after a new tyre is fitted. You'll soon get the idea.

Anonymous,

As Lyn showed, high speed balancing is performed dynamically on equipment that rotates the part to detect balance issues.

The actual balancing can be done either by adding weights at the points identified by the balancing equipment, or in some cases, the parts are machined to correct the imbalance. Not sure what the size/shape of the rotor you are talking about, but automotive production rotors typically are done this way to save the cost of the weights and to eliminate the possibility of the balance weights coming off during operation.

Are you conversant with the balancing procedure? Balancing an art apart from science. Unless you give details of rotor to be balanced, type of balancing machine, no one would be in a position to help you. Else contact balancing expert.

Bit off topic but members may be kind to help please?

I want to balance a moving load inside a fast revolving drum - automatically.
Is that possible? And how please? (the key word is automatically)

Imaging an item is inserted into a drum container and is revolved at high speed.
The centrifugal force positions the item on the side of the drum which,
although initially well balanced, is now seriously out of balance.
How can this "unbalance" be corrected automatically?

Any ideas for me please? Thank you for your help.

If your question is would you add weight to or shift the angle of the couple, or go to a static pair would depend on the entire balance program.

You don't really have enough information for anyone to comment properly. Of course you can get plenty of "smart" answers here.
