TTR Test on Voltage Regulator

01/25/2015 12:07 PM

Hello fellow Engineers, please what will be the cause or problem on a voltage regulator transformer. When conducting a TTR test, and the result coming is EXCITATION CURRENT TOO HIGH. the type of instrument used was MEGGER TTR 330 model.

Thank you and waiting for your contribution.

I guess that you couldn't make the effort to read the instruction manual where it says"...This message indicates that excitation current exceeds 500 mA. Excitation current can be reduced by using lower test voltages (40 V or 8 V)..."

While you're at it you should also the heed the message "... Read this entire manual before operating..." so that the results have some validity.

You'll need to explain "excitation current", or the OP will remain lost forever.

Thank you RAM Consult, You ar right. The test voltage has beeb reduced to the lowest. At tap posiont 1,2and3 we had some good result but tap position four gave us nothing but high excitation current. then we changed tap to5,6 and 7. of which we had good result.after tap 8 gave us high excitation current. Later we got to know that afrer runing and testing three taps the forth gave high excitation current. The total tap positions for the voltage regulator is 65
