Hint for Aluminum (Plank) Anodised Extrusions

02/21/2015 12:21 AM

Dear Friends,

I am in need of a good (and economic) aluminum extruded aluminum supplier, who can also anodize.

The size I have in mind is 1.5" X 6" plank form that has a E- like shape.

The required volume is about a 40 feet container.

And the shape must provide anti- skid and good water release.

Has someone here good experience with one?

Thanks

No.

But, I suggest that you look for a stock shape and then order it. Custom extrusion dies are really expensive.

The aluminum dies for thermal extrusion are make in spark erosion systems (there might be a different name for it - vonkerosie in Europe) and they turned out to be dirt cheap in extrusions I had ordered in Italy. Those CNC machines are very economic and just need time, without (a lot of) supervision. For a 4" X .75", I paid less than $200.00 for the die. It is just a flat plate.

How about one of these from Eagle?Or, use your old friend Google for 'aluminum bleacher planks', maybe hit 'Images' and see if any fit you. Most seem to be wider. I don't have any experience with any, pricing or otherwise.

That is roughly what I need.

I would like to work straight with an extrusion company to bring the price down. The make products are too pricey.

Thanks for your input

D.

In India we have a reputed brand called Jindal Aluminum Ltd, Agarvanshi Aluminum Ltd, Jyoti Heat sinks Pvt Ltd (www.jyotiindia.com) . You can find on Google. They have many extrusions and will give it anodized too. For 40 containers you could invest in a special tooling if needed.

Hello D.

If you find the aluminum planking you need, and it is not available with an anti-slip face, contact me as I have available a NON EPOXY water based anti-slip safety coating that incorporates re-cycled rubber tire aggregate. This safety coating CAN be applied to aluminum. When the primer, designed to work with the safety coating is used, is applied to a substrate, the safety coating becomes permanent. This product is currently being applied in water parks, amusement parks, ship decks and oil rig helicopter landing pads.

The aggregate and coating is available in many standard colors or custom colors. If interested you can contact me for further information.

There is a company I have purchased from several times over the past years called Norandex. They make extrusions for multiple applications such as windows, scaffolding, stadium seating, as well as heat sink material they have an extensive catalog of shapes and will make dies if needed for a different or complex shape as needed.

I like to thank you all for the contributions to this post.

The project is nearing its end phase and for those who are interested in the end product, here some pictures. The first 40 feet container is on its way.

That looks just like stadium seating and walk board material. Was that the intended use of the material in its primary useage.

We designed this walk board to cover wooden docks. It had to be sized like this:

158 mm X 20 mm and interlocked. Paid avg. $3.40 per kg.
