Biomass to Ethanol

02/23/2015 2:05 PM

Researchers at University of California, Riverside have found an enzyme that breaks down the cellular walls much cheaper than previous methods....this should make cellulosic ethanol competitive with conventional sources like corn....

"Novel Pretreatment Could Cut Biofuel Costs by 30 Percent or More

UC Riverside researchers have developed a novel technology that cuts the amount of enzymes needed to produce biofuels by 90 percent or more...."

This might drop the price of E85 even lower than it is now. I like the idea of making ethanol fuel from non-food products. Kudzu beware!

Well it probably won't go any higher....as this tech pans out I expect E-85 will become the fuel of choice....

Then we can miniaturize the reactors and have self-fueling, autonomous robotic lawnmowers.

Yes, but the reactor would have to be separate....and the prototype will be a little pricey at a few million dollars...

Will this lawn mower be just as tasty when grilled?

Are those "self fueling autonomous lawnmowers"?

Not only that but they fertilize as well, produce milk for your kids, are self reproducing, provide several tasty meals at 'end of life cycle'....not to mention are able to grow magic mushrooms for entertainment....

And Lord knows, there is absolutely nothing fun about tipping lawnmowers over on their sides at night.

may be they should use more energy from nature and combine it to biomass then convert it to ethanol to fulfill the necessity.
