Here is a red one and green one. You could add a hitch and a tow-bar to make them work as a single unit.

Do you mean connect two pen drives (USB memory sticks) up to a computer or similar but have them only show a single drive letter and share the data?

I don't think you can and why would you, large capacity USB memory sticks cost slightly more than nothing and large TB size portable hard drives that plug straight into the USB port are dirt cheap and readily available.

What are you trying to do anyway?

Yes but why? What do you want to use the 16GB for where 2x8GB is not suitable?

It just isn't practical with these USB sticks and the way computers work, but there are other options depending on what you actually want to use the two pen drives for.

What is this 16GB pen drive going to be used for exactly?

Do you mean a hub? I doubt it.

As the others, not sure what you are looking for.

The only practical way of doing this is with an archiving utility like WinZip. WinZip will allow you to "span" an archive across multipul disk volumes.

My guess is the op wants to set up a raid jbod configuration with pen drives. I know you can do this with hard drives not sure if the same thing would work with thumb drives but it might.

You can span a single folder across multiple drives. And use a short cut to the folder.

Hang on a second, it says in your CR4 member bio that you are a "computer hardware engineer".

Wasn't this covered in the 3 year degree (or similar) you did to become a computer hardware Engineer?

Now iam studying 2nd year b.tech in ece. I got this doubt and posted it. Is it a crime to ask such doubt? If so you think then there is no need of replying to my question. Thank you.

See my posts #2 and #11, I have already asked for more information to answer your question properly and am still waiting for you to provide it.

Please don't call yourself an Engineer if your not yet, it just confuses things and makes us expect more from you than we possibly should.

Re: How to Combine Two Pendrives?

we can combine but it is a long process because the pen drive will consume 5 volts only but when u combine the two pen drives you should give 10 volts input so that the usb port in the system will generate only 5 volts you con change the cpu by giving 10 volts it is possible

No, this is wrong you cannot modify the computer interfaces like that, and even if you could you would run the electronics in parallel to get the same voltage not series and double the voltage.

yes here we connected two pendrives in parallel and we got 5v each. but the current from the usb port of the pc is 500mA which is getting divided as 250mA each to two pendrives and the system is showing an ERROR- CODE 43 when connected both the pendrives by combining in parallel connection of the 4 pins of usb.

You cannot do it this way, USB doesn't work that way, addressing doesn't work that way. There are reasons computers come with numerous USB ports and reasons why you can buy special devices that parallel up multiple USB ports as a way of increasing the current. Read up on the following link to start with.

Oh and this while you are at it

As I keep saying......YOU....CANNOT....CONNECT.....THEM.....THIS....WAY! The computer is now telling you the same thing.

Clearly you don't understand how the USB port works and operates. You NEED to go back and do some research yourself on the USB port and USB standard, not keep trying in the hope you can get it to work when it won't!

Re: How to Combine Two Pendrives?

A hub, and no it wont add the separate connected USB memory sticks into a single drive - it boosts the available current to power separate USB sticks off a current limited port while designating and addressing separate drive letter designations to each of the USB ports.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_expander

There may possibly be a way to do this in software on the computer (combining two drives into one) but it would still use one USB stick per USB port. You would need to research if this could be done yourself however.

Yes but the hub allows additional unique drive addresses (letters eg E: F: etc), one for each USB stick connected. The original question was can you take two USB sticks and wire them up to a single port using a single unique address (which you cannot).

Re: How to Combine Two Pendrives?

Bro, I got your idea very clearly. Actually, USB protocol cannot support two pendrives in the way you want simply by connecting them in parallel (or in series).
In order to do so, you first need to understand inside of a pendrive. It contains two chips inside:
1) The Controller Chip: The brain (intelligent part) of the pendrive which interfaces USB port of the host device with the second chip which stores data
2) The Storage Chip: which is basically a NAND Flash memory chip.

In above figure '2' is the controller chip and '4' is the storage chip.

When you connect a pendrive the host system handshakes with the controller and loads appropriate driver to decide the device class and what operations it can do with the slave device (pendrive in this case).
If two controller chips are connected at same port, there will be problem in communication, you will get some error code.

However, what you want is achievable, if you are good in soldering, and have access to a good soldering station in college lab or at your home. You need to open both the pendrives. In most of the pendrives, the manufacturers keep a slot vaccant for additional memory chip to increase memory. You can de-solder the memory chip from one pendrive and solder it on to the pads of other pendrive. Thus you can add up 8GB+8GB to make a single pendrive of 16GB.
But before doing that, also consult datasheets of the memory chips if they are from different manufacturers, see if they are pin-compatible or not. I think in 90% cases you will get success by this method. Hope this should help.
-Wish u all the best!
