The Heat Goes On

Posted September 01, 2009 7:49 AM by Sharkles

The global warming debate is never ending: three recent papers argue for greenhouse gas reduction actions that are more cost-effective than simply reducing emissions through efficiency and renewable energy. Lower costs can be incurred by implementing forestry campaigns, controlling methane emissions, and addressing soot or black carbon. The latter two options offer almost immediate benefits while all three approaches together would be optimal. How do you see these opportunities fitting into an international program that encompasses both industrial and developing areas?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Environmental Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Environmental Technology today.

In developing countries, education, technology, and economically viable sustainable projects can help develop the region, improve the quality and environmental impact of industrial processes.

Many times, with all due respect, the miner is like the farmer that finds out that there is coal under his/her feet, and having no education, it is easier to sell the coal to a low efficiency coal fired power plant, rather than developing a coal liquefaction process and probably provide valuables to a local market, and improve the life standard of the region. It is common to see coal-mines with no safety standards, and, in many of the accidents reported, the workers did not have health insurance.

Developing countries face other environmental problems such as garbage disposal, polluted rivers, polluted air from industries, lack of investment in human capital, and high economic inequality; these also have an impact on global warming, and biodiversity degradation.

A good example is the City of Sogamoso, Colombia, the second most polluted city in Colombia, were I personally have seen red air in the sky and yellow clouds. But, since the city depends on the industry economically, pollution will keep on being produced, unless there is a better economic option for the city, better laws, or economic incentives for industries that become greener.

Renewable energy projects allocate capital in different places rater than on an energy monopoly, and give options to consumers. Also, the globalization of communications, if properly used can help us interact with other regions and support locals with education and application of quality standards such as ISO or NIOSH .

ONG's and other organizations that have proved results in the U.S. such as those that helped to derogate Bush's Clean Water Act, can be useful in educating and helping developing regions to promote democracy and accountability in environmental laws made by policy makers.

Something that should be considered is that in many regions, industries have polluted the environment and have done it against the locals, and have used illegal armed forces such as death squads and paramilitary to persuade locals and probably to corrupt environmental evaluations. This issue also touches global warming.

My investigation of more than 30 years tells me that mankind's habit of doing everything for the money has led to global warming, when we do things the wrong way it seems that there is always more money in it, but, as a direct result it always harms the environment. For example; I was attempting in the ninties to build a sewage composter. Because in my design, I suspended human dung in aerated water & as a result I discovered a law of nature; When human or because of their simularities pig dung is suspended in aerated water the bacteria which are natural to these dungs, grows very rapidly & eats all of the solids producing methane gas, which can be used as fuel. Therefore, all human & pig dung can be turned into fuel. I cannot believe that this is a great discovery. I believe that this information was discovered over a hundred years ago, but was oppressed by those who stood to make money from the use of fossil fuels.

When I made my discovery, the state of Pennsylvania department of environmental protection had me charged with building a sewage device without a permit & fined me $1000.00. Coincodentally, they had refused to give me a permit, because they had a plan of their own: to continue to do the sewage the wrong way & spend billions of tax dollars expanding the system, because there is a lot of money in it. I don't want to elaborate too much on "The wrong way", accept to say that instead of getting a reward from dung by making energy of it, taxpayers are being forced to pay exorbitant fees for having it done the wrong way, which pollutes our rivers & the chesepeak bay, & puts billions of cubic feet of methane gas in our air, which in turn gives the "Sewage authority" the excuse to raise the sewage bill each year to pay for the damage that the "Wrong way" generates. The cleanup never occurs, but the price continues to rise. So you see, we are being lied to about just what the right way to do sewage or most anything else is & then we are "Paying" for these lies. I have found that this wrong or utilitarian way of thinking is in deed what is killing our world & we with it. Personally, I view it as money worship, an illegal religion in my God's world & in my minds eye because of my religious bringing up; a violation of the first law of God: "You should have no other Gods before me". If this is a blog which does not include God in it's considerations, I would not wish to continue to be a part of it. Ungodliness is money worship, which is Satanism & I don't practice Satanism & there is no middle ground. For me respect for God is respect for nature, they are one in the same. I do not think this is at all off the subject. It is the truth & I love it as I love my God, because my God & yours is every word of truth & we can put him on paper. Following the truth instead of lies is the true worship or following of God. Thank you.
