The Coolest Computer Case Ever?

Posted January 20, 2010 12:01 AM by FirstZoom

Last year, DesignworksUSA teamed up with ThermalTake to develop a Level 10 chassis. Perhaps the most striking impression of this product is its six unique hard drive bays and how the optical drive compartment is completely sealed off - and can only be opened with the USB key. In fact, nothing works unless the USB key is slotted in. This extractable power button not only activates the system, but also secures personal system data, rendering it suitable for flexible use.

The smart lock system also facilitates protecting valuable modules that can be seen here. Each compartment is aligned for specific needs, such as power supply, graphics card, motherboard, and memory. Two well-positioned, integrated handles allow the Level 10 to be safely and conveniently transported as needed.

The Level 10 design has an integrated cable conduit system and special light features which communicate various component information to the owner, such as temperature and memory status. According to DesignworksUSA, each high-quality component featured by the Level 10 concept is enclosed within its own protective case, to allow for user convenience, interchangeability, and transportation - as well as for optimizing cooling.

Looks like something out of a Borg ship.

In fact, nothing works unless the USB key is slotted in...

Thus ensuring the imminent loss of the USB key.

USB key idea was shelved. Seems they decided it was not a good idea as you pointed out.

Of course you would gaffa tape the USB key to the top of the case for safe keeping.

In fact nothing works unless the USBkey is slotted in.

With all the sealed compartments I can only assume they are using liquid cooling, but why all the security for a case designed purely for a gaming machine?

What happens if you lose the key or forget to take it with you when you go to a LAN party (or similar), you cannot even turn it on?

Where are the transparent panels and unnecessary CFL light bars?

If a picture is worth a thousand words I still need to find 994 more. Portable gaming platform, WTF? is all I can come up with so far.

I don't know about "Portable" gaming, the Level 10 is big, balky, weights 65lbs and has a list price at Newegg of $850 US Dollars - Somehow I don't see these flying off the shelf and "NO" it is not the coolest PC case ever.

I have a sneaking hunch that this thing would tend to run hot, especially the HDD bays.
