Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Cool Cars: 1986 Pulse

Posted February 25, 2010 12:01 AM by dstrohl

The Pulse uses two main wheels positioned at the front and rear of the vehicle, as well as two smaller outrigger wheels housed in the small winglets either side of the cockpit. Due to the positioning of the stabilizing side wheels only 3 wheels are in contact with the ground at any one time.

The chassis of the Litestar Pulse consists of welded steel tubing covered by a fibreglass shell. Inside the tandem-seat cockpit of the Pulse were an AM-FM radio cassette, lights, Full instruments, seat belts, and custom upholstery. This Pulse also has a front air suspension and running lights, including neon under the body.

This vehicle utilizes the very powerful Honda V-65 1100cc 110 h.p. motor. It is water cooled and caplable of speeds up to 80+ m.p.h.

Kewl.

I've seen outrigger setups like that on contemporary Harley Davidson bikes. Nice for old folks like me who may be having balance issues or don't have the strength to keep a bike from falling over at slow speeds or stopped. The bike rigs auto retract at some speed, though.
