How Can We Invest in Future Engineers?

Posted February 24, 2010 9:11 AM

Some are saying that while bad economic times have forced many companies to downsize their engineering staff, we need to be prepared for the good times to come. Investing in future engineers involves getting students in junior high and high school interested in math and science. Two educational institutions are collaborating to focus specifically on girls in hopes of bridging the technology gap that has existed between the genders. Bringing more women into engineering workforce is one way to build a stronger technical workforce. What are others? Is your company contributing in some way to engineering education? What skills does your industry need most?

Bringing more women into the engineering field will also change the dynamics of the design industry, resulting in new approaches.

Another area that is very important and often left out, is grade school. We need to set a goal, when the young ones are fist deciding "do I want to be a fireman, doctor, astronaut?" to '... fireman, engineer, doctor or astronaut'.

Our company provides many free training services via the Internet. Like free training videos on youtube, free download site at http://www.industrial-ebooks.com/

In the industrial Engineering field, we are in desperate need of automation skills, like PLC, PAC, SCADA, DCS experts.
