If you want to prevent unforeseen automotive breakdowns and be more savvy in dealing with repair shops, a new device called CarMD may be the answer, notes BusinessWeek. About the size of a cell phone, the $99 device plugs into a car's onboard diagnostic computer port, then uploads the information to a Web Site that explains any problems and estimates repair costs (see video). You can use CarMD for up to three vehicles.
