Are You Skeptical About Climate Change?

Posted June 01, 2010 7:28 AM

One argument says global warming is part of a natural trend that started 400 years ago, and that humans affect it only at the margins. Another argument says that humans are the primary cause of climate change, and that trillions must be spent to change the situation. What do you think?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Power Generation & Distribution, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Power Generation & Distribution today.

It doesn't matter whether anyone is convinced or not. The wars for oil are a plague on the earth. They are sufficient cause for at least the following:

I will

Build or buy an electric car, hopefully powered by hub motors. A small diesel generator will power it burning 5% oil-95% veg oil.

Install photo voltaic panels and solar heating This will reduce the power of both OPEC and the oil companies over me. If every US and Canadian did this no imported oil would be needed.

These changes would reduce my use of hydrocarbons and out put of toxic gases.

Large amounts of defense budgets would be reallocated to more rational defense.

I will be much more self sufficient .

Doesn't matter. Humans are polluting their environment at an alarming rate. Will they be a flash-in-the-pan species? Or, will they wise up and plan for the long haul?

Climate change! Yes our climate is changing.

Are we as a race affecting it? Yes, but there is a lot more to it than just Carbon Dioxide.

Am I sceptical about Climate Change? No, I am however very concerned that we as a race are going to do far more damage trying to fix this 'problem'. Removing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere means that for every Carbon Atom removed we remove two Oxygen Atoms.

Life on Earth needs both Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen, don't fix one problem by causing another!
