Tomorrow's Economic Engines

Business pundits like to debate what will be the next big force to drive the global economy. David Darst, chief investment strategist at Morgan Stanley, predicts that "the mobile Internet will create more wealth and destroy more wealth than the mainframe computer, the mini-computer, the personal computer, and the Internet." With oil prices predicted to go ever higher, Wall St. analyst Charles Maxwell of Weeden & Company says the biggest boom will be in technologies linked to energy efficiency and conservation, including green energy sources. Such technologies will also spur greater investment in infrastructure. What major economic drivers have these gurus missed? Medical devices? New miracle drugs?
