Podcast: Gulf Seafood Safety — Beyond the Sniff Test

Posted August 30, 2010 7:56 AM

Is seafood from the Gulf of Mexico safe to eat? The FDA says it is, based on sniff tests and analytical testing for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. But many people remain dubious about the subjectivity of sniff tests while also suspicious of how chromatography is performed, the authenticity of the results, and whether it includes testing for dispersants. Chemists are rushing to present alternative analytical tests. How much testing is enough?

Sodium Benzoide - my Grandfather told me they used that to take stain out of wood and that it's a deadly poison, yet they use it in our soft drinks.

Floride in our toothpaste - is a waste product that they needed to get rid of somehow - Nazis used it on Jewish concentration camp inmates to keep them docile. The only reason it is in our toothpaste is a means to get rid of the waste product, it really does not have any benefit to our teeth.

Much of our junk food is plastic and so is some of our cheese that we eat.

So what's the difference if the Gulf fish are healthy or not.
