If 1956 was a memorable year in terms of automotive design,
it was generally for the wrong reasons. Take the medium-priced field: The
Buick, at least in its larger series, was bulbous. The Mercury had evidently
been conceived by someone who been struck by a chrome-plated lightning bolt.
The Chrysler wore a conspicuously ill-fitting pair of fins atop its rear
fenders. And then there was the Hudson. Or was there?"
Hybrids are all the rage today, but AMC had a hybrid on the
market more than 50 years ago … Oh, wait, a different kind of hybrid. However,
both the modern-day Prius and the Hudson-Nash "Hash" of the mid-1950s did both
get chided on their looks, so there's at least one thing they both had in
