Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Cool Cars: 1970 Hemi Baracuda Convertible

Posted November 11, 2010 9:00 AM by dstrohl

Let's talk numbers. This car is one of just 14 1970 Hemi Baracuda Convertibles that were built. It's also one of 9 with a factory automatic transmission. It's been restored, but has driven only 19,000 miles from new. Features include power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, and the Rallye gauge package.

The car is set for auction in January, but popular pricing guides are no help. The closest thing I can find to a value is $1 million – $1.39 million from a book published in early 2008. And, uh, you know how valid those prices are today.

So if this was yours, how much would you expect to get for it at Scottsdale in 2011?

Find someone with dollars to spend. Like the CEO's getting big tax dollar bonuses from stimulus monies. Figure out who they are then send out info on your car for a quick close deal. Always ask more than what you want then negotiate.

First off a few questions, okay?

Is it a numbers matching car? Original engine and trannie? During the restoration was the engine disassembled, rehabbed and blue-printed? What is the carb? Rotisserie and off the frame restoration?

Everything else original to the car? If not, what was replaced?

Inquiring minds want to know.......now if I only had the bread to buy it! (If I did have the cash, I'd buy a WWII North American Aviation P-51D Mustang instead.....basically the same-same cost! Hello mom, want to lend me some cold hard cash that dad left to you???) LOL

TIA!

Well, the restorers guide says nothing about power windows in any 1970 Baracuda or 'Cuda. Other than that, it looks to be correct. As you say, lets see the numbers.

And if I recall correctly, no Baracudas with hemi were built, only 'Cuda was available with that mill. In the title photo, shaker hood is visible (Hemi or 440 6 bbl), driving lights ('Cuda standard), and simple stripe with no hood badge ('Cuda).
