Achieving Your Career Goals — Or Not

Posted November 27, 2010 7:34 AM

Career goals take many forms. Some people aim at great accomplishments, for example, while others try to achieve a certain status or make a certain amount of money. In some cases, people doggedly pursue their goals. In others, goals are eventually abandoned, replaced by "hanging in there" until the end of the day or until retirement. Are you still striving to achieve career goals? If so, tell us about your progress. If not, tell us why you've abandoned them.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Water & Wastewater Systems, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Water & Wastewater Systems today.

Carrier goal is the driving force for the vertical growth in one's professional carrier. Aim high and put heart & soul to achieve the goal. I put sincere efforts to reach the goal. I do not get frustrated in case if I am not able to achieve it . I take the life as it comes and happy always.

This post hit me right between the eyes when I saw it because I realized when I woke this morning that I've been lost for some many years now because I didn't realign my goals after I had a big fall and I've just been wandering in a haphazard daze since then.

Today I woke knowing I've got to make a new plan.

I haven't done that yet but it's at the front of my mind and at the top of my agenda.

Thanks for letting me put it in words.

OK, I'll bite. I have always gone after my personal goals. And did OK, till I wasted 2 years selling Allen Bradley products as an inside sales guy. That job was only to be 6 months. Time just kept going. Then I called it enough. MOved on to do what I wanted to, not necessarlily the money I wanted, but as tme went on, I was doing OK. Till the economy went in the toilet. I have been playing with electricity since I was 5. IN the mid 70's I became a machinist. 80's machine designer, fabricator and boss. 90's Sales guy... Nuf said. 2000, back to electrical designer/fabricator and have moved on since. Today I am responsible for an entire Auqacultural facility raising salt water fish for human consumption. From the start, contorl panel design, fabrication, pump selection, through out till the end process is on line and fish are thriving and going to market. Many facilities on plans for several more states.

So yes, I am on my way to doing what I was to do. Are there chalenges? Oh yea,

Today working on my truck, 5 bettered fingers, (if any mistypes, you will have to excuse the bandages) I have challenges every day, in multiples. That is 1/2 the fun.

So my career goals have been up and down financially, but personaly, they have kept me sharp and moving ahead. I am not done yet and I am old now. Not ready to retire tough, there is so much more I want to do!

I ust re-read my post, 1 correction. 20 years selling Allen Bradley products...

Wasted 20 years of frustration. But, it is what is was. Ya get the big bucks, 401K, this and that and that and days turn to years, and years fly by till you have had enough. Many wasted years doing what I should have been doing other things...

But it is what it is...
