Materials Handing Sector Sees Steady Rebound

Posted March 29, 2011 12:00 AM by Sharkles

At a recent State of the Industry press conference, the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) announced the predicted outlook numbers for 2011. Citing significant recovery from the recession that begun in 2008, George Prest, chief operating officer for the MHIA, told the audience that the industry sees $75 billion being spent on materials handing throughout the next year-and-a-half.

The number is based on a couple of factors: how much money the conferences' attendees said they planned on spending in the next year, and the number of pre-registrations for the event compared to the number from 2009.

Prest describes the recovery of the material handling sector over the past couple years as appearing V-shape. According to a report from the Material Handling Equipment Manufacturers (MHEM), new orders grew by 18% from 2009-2010. For the coming year, the organization forecasts between 11-12% growth.

Do you think these numbers are feasible?

'Material Handing' sounds like a lewd euphemism. Whatever floats your boat or gets your goat, I'm not one to judge (lest I be judged).

You might want to stay away from euphemism with spellings similar to the name and subject of your blog.
