According to our reference books, the Autocar Type XXI, rated at two
tons, rode a 97-inch wheelbase and took its power from an 18.1-hp opposed
two-cylinder engine with a three-speed transmission and, uncommon for a
solid-tired truck from this age, shaft drive. For that reason, we say
that this 1912 Autocar Type XXI omnibus
will not be setting any speed records, with or
without passengers in the back. From the description:
"Chassis and running gear rebuilt and in fully operable
condition with original engine. Original coach constructed by one of the
oldest, respected builders of the period, selectively restored and
authentically refinished. Vehicle comes with period manuals, functional
accessories to include clock, running lanterns, traffic bells, horns,
main light, etc. The body features retractable, original beveled glass
windows and trimmed bench seating. Comes with full documented provenance
dating back to late 1940s, owned by Henry Austin Clark Jr. of NYC.
Autocar and body provenance. A well preserved and running vehicle of
Americana that has survived the last 100 years."
