Does PLM Foster Innovation?

By centralizing data bases and bringing together diverse engineering specialties and related professionals, Product Lifecycle Management has streamlined product development, but does it really encourage new ideas? As reported in Design News, a survey by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services of 1,214 global enterprises found that advanced software tools like PLM are becoming increasingly important to a successful innovation strategy. In addition to PLM, survey respondents cited these methods as essential to innovation: supplier management, product requirements management, strategic R&D portfolio management, design & analysis, and change and workflow process tools. How big a role do such tools play in your company's quest to stay inventive?

I agree with you there. No one but Siemens seems to care about PLM. My last Company drank the koolaid, two years of false starts and about $6M cost the VP, whose brainchild it was, his job.
