Most Ford 406-cu.in. V-8s used two bolts to secure the main caps, but a
limited number of 406s built in 1963 used two cross-bolts through the
skirt of the block for three of the five main caps. This 1963 Ford 406
appears to be one of those engines, found on a
dealer's shelf and subsequently rebuilt. From the description:
"This engine is standard
bore and stroke. It has been X-rayed and
sonic checked, and decked and line honed. All flashings removed and all oil passage ways massaged. This
engine was designed to run all day @ 7000 rpm and should produce
in the neighborhood of 575 hp. All this and it runs on pump gas."
