At its third annual Pebble Beach Motorcycle Marketplace event this
weekend, Mid America Auctions will present more than 100 motorcycles,
scooters and pedal cars. Some of the bikes offered are previous award
winners from nationally judged shows and some are extremely rare as
well.
Among the lots at the sale include the 1944 Indian 841 military
bike above, one of 1,100 built for the war effort. The 841 used a 750cc
transverse-mounted side-valve engine and shaft-drive transmission, and
troops preferred the ride to the Harley-Davidson military bikes. The
arrival of the Jeep pretty much put Indian out of the military
motorcycle supply business, however.
