Do You Work for a "Zero Landfill" Company?

Posted September 30, 2011 7:51 AM

Consumer brands giant Unilever is working to recycle 97% of its waste and reuse the remaining 3% for energy production, making it a "zero landfill" company. The company is using the famous "3 R's" mantra: reduce, reuse, and recycle. They have reduced their total waste in manufacturing by 77% since 1995, setting an impressive sustainability standard. Can your company match Unilever's dedication to these ecological goals?

The way the economy is going many companies only need one more government regulation to push them over the edge and make them a TRUE ZERO landfill company.

If a company goes out of business can they sell the carbon credits that they earned by converting to a zero emissions company?

No! It seems that the more we (our company) go digital in the engineering department, especially CAD and PLM, the more things get printed out. The last company I worked at (down sizing to cut costs) I saw the same thing. It seems difficult for some to just review documents on their computer screen and must print every little tidbit of information, whether it is a project proposal, preliminary drawing..... The same for plain old water. The drinking fountains are filtered as well as a water filtration/chiller unit in the coffee room. There are lots of bottled water around. The water from the drinking fountain or the water unit in the coffee room are probably better quality then the plastic bottles anyway.

Unilever is dedicated to pacifying the green idiots in their consumer population while making money - nothing more.

This should get Unilever a thousand greenie points - with 2000 greenies and 5$ you can get a cup of Starbucks coffee - you can get it for 5$ equally well.
