Plan a Preferred Power Supply

Posted October 04, 2011 7:00 AM

A Renewable Energy World article tells of a documentary filmmaker making a 600+ mile bicycle trek through two U.S. states to discover the 'best' energy source. All energy policies call for a mix of fossil fuels and alternative sources, as there is no one 'best' source. But suppose you could plan the mix for a specific region (assuming no grid constraints). What weight would you give to solar, wind, biomass, and other renewables along with nuclear and fossil sources in the power supply?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Alternative & Renewable Energy, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Alternative & Renewable Energy today.

Reliable, safe, cheap and non obtrusive- mini-nuclear, such as the Toshiba 4S. All other sources, pick one of four criteria. If you are really lucky, you might get two out of four.

There are even those out there that want to make mini-nukes transportable (for use in things like disaster recovery...)

'tells of a documentary filmmaker making a 600+ mile bicycle trek through two U.S. states to discover'

I question the intelligence of the entire thing - I can not think of a more inefficient method of reaching a conclusion on the topic.
