Changing the Macroscopic Mindset

Modeling microelectromechnical systems has improved with new computer-based simulation software, but engineers still have some issues converting macroscopic ideas to the nano level. Arthur C. Ratzel III, director of the Engineering Sciences Center at NM-based Sandia National Laboratories, explains the challenges ahead for "micro-enabled solutions," including the associated need for scale-aware tools.
