The world of premium 1/43rd-scale model cars is simply delightful.
The variety of American and foreign prototypes, detail, and exclusivity
at a really big showing can boggle the mind. The unfortunate thing is
that these shows are much less common in the United States than in
Europe, but they do happen.
For instance, not long after we reported the passing of hobby pioneer Dave Sinclair,
we heard from another Dave who's into 1/43rd, Dave Kirkel, better known
as Buz, the proprietor of the Route 66 Model Car Store in Western
Springs, Illinois. He's organizing a 1/43rd Scale Model Car Expo to be
held Sunday, March 26, at the William Tell Holiday Inn in Countryside,
Illinois, just southwest of Chicago off Interstate 55. The wares will
include strongly high-end replicas, presented by on-site factory
representatives from Conquest/Madison, Western Models, Highway
Travelers, Minimarque and Automodello. For information, check Buz's
site, Route66ModelCarStore.com.
