Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

A Car Show That Fits In Your Pocket

Posted March 07, 2012 9:00 AM by dstrohl

The world of premium 1/43rd-scale model cars is simply delightful. The variety of American and foreign prototypes, detail, and exclusivity at a really big showing can boggle the mind. The unfortunate thing is that these shows are much less common in the United States than in Europe, but they do happen.

For instance, not long after we reported the passing of hobby pioneer Dave Sinclair, we heard from another Dave who's into 1/43rd, Dave Kirkel, better known as Buz, the proprietor of the Route 66 Model Car Store in Western Springs, Illinois. He's organizing a 1/43rd Scale Model Car Expo to be held Sunday, March 26, at the William Tell Holiday Inn in Countryside, Illinois, just southwest of Chicago off Interstate 55. The wares will include strongly high-end replicas, presented by on-site factory representatives from Conquest/Madison, Western Models, Highway Travelers, Minimarque and Automodello. For information, check Buz's site, Route66ModelCarStore.com.

dstrohl, do you build these car models as well?

I don't, but I have always admired the guys in our IPMS model club that do. Their models are works of art IMO! Love 'em!

(I only build 1/32 scale plastic models of military aircraft....but sometimes build 1/48 and 1/72 scale kits if the model is huge to begin with).

Thanks for the interesting blog!
