$100 Laptop Nears Launch

In an ambitious project designed to mitigate the digital divide, the One Laptop per Child is working to develop a human-powered $100 laptop for children in underdeveloped countries. With a 500 MHz processor, 128 MB of DRAM, and a Linux operating system, the units are slated for a 2007 launch. Still needed are appropriate display and SVGA projector technologies. Find out what you can do to help.

......good proposal....but these users should be able to write with pen ....about display .....small old monochrome crt display should work economics, but it will not be a laptop , weight for cheaper technology to come

no hard disk is matter of concen , as network or cd booting is equally difficult , also human power utilisation is debatable , if it is achild of certain age who will operate his pc , he will prefere to play with the generator instead insteade of learning linux , generator can be run by coil spring suppose one hour that mat be sufficient for a single course,if it is so low powered than solar power can be utilised with little expense or battery powered . it is difficult to utilise computer while powering with a paddle say , after all it is not a toy

Big corporates related to manufacturing components and also other blue chip companies , governments of those countries benefitting , rich nations should help the cause , by donating , marketing and training for free , subsidies and tax levis .....best of luck....thank you
