Manufacturing Institute Releases New Employer Toolkit

Posted December 27, 2013 12:00 AM by Milo

The Manufacturing Institute has developed a one-stop, how-to guide on developing and recruiting a skilled workforce. Written by and for manufacturers, the toolkit on Developing Skilled Workers speaks to chief executives, human resources professionals, and operations managers, with steps to take, partners to build, and templates to use to grow their own talent pipeline.

Toolkit for employers

(Slaps furry head with paw...)
Yeak, a nice glossy book for HR that'll fix it.

How about getting their backsides off their comfy chairs and getting onto the factory floor, learning about the product, process and workforce to identify what is required.
Ah! Maybe the big shiny book says that anyway?... but hey I did it in about 10 words free of charge.

"templates to use to grow their own talent pipeline". (splarf)
When will HR wonks realize people don't fit templates they are individuals?

Oh dear ... there goes my new years resolution to be less cynical

But seriously... If it is full of good advice then great

Hi Del. I helped to edit this, and helped to create the Stackable skills credentialing program. This is written to show employers how to engage with existing efforts to get skilled workers in their shops.

The problem isn't HR not getting out on the shop floor. The problem is helping HR create a process to find and train candidates for skilled work.

So yes it is a primer.

Yes it is needed.

We are trying to show them the way.

I didn't take it as a cheap shot. There is a lot of misunderstanding, and those of us who have actualluy worked in manufacturing think that the HR "suits" ought to just know this stuff. They don't.

I am fortunate to have a position and access to folks to try to change this.

Thanks for the comments, and Happy 2014 to you and Mrs. Cat.

Hope this years catnip crop is bumper !
