Big Data Skyrockets

Posted April 02, 2014 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Product complexity is a real and growing challenge. Many products incorporate multiple systems, sub-systems, and huge counts of components - all which need to be optimized to work together. That requires lots of simulation runs and data storage, not to mention the ability to share data in many directions. Desktop Engineering explores the big data challenge from the perspective of designing a space launch vehicle. But the trouble isn't exclusive to aerospace. Read more to see how manufacturers are coping with mountains of data, including migrating to system-level simulation.

Simulation is only valuable to the extent it is accurate. It isn't always cost-effective to attempt to simulate something that you haven't designed yet.
